Here's a "rough" final draft of ol' Vern. I may go back and change the head color a little, but I think he's ready to hit the fields.....I can see it in his dents that are supposed to be eyes.

What about changing out the leg for a spring? Or at least a partial spring. This would give you some motion with a little bit of mono tugging him in a direction then releasing it.
