Default received an awesome gift today

my father came home from my grandfather's house this morning and said he had something for me. he pulled a block of wood out of his shirt pocket and it was a scratcher type call that my great-grandfather had made. it was very smoke stained or whatever as it's been through a house fire. i'm VERY proud of this. i see this being a perfect addition to the display i plan to have someday in my own homewith my other great-grandfather's pocket knife and my grandfather's stevens double barrel 20g.

i'll get pictures for you guys as soon as possible.

That was a great gift. Something you can Cherish the rest of your life and hand down to your children and grandchildren.

Definately a girt to cherish! There is nothing better than something like that. Hofully you will call in a bird or two with it (assuming its functional) before it goes to the shelf? Either way, Awesome!

it is functional but very fragile. i'm not sure i'm going to carry it in the woods.

i forgot to mention that my mom's father's canteen that was on his hip during teh battle of the rhine in ww2 would be a part of said display as well as the 48 star flag that was draped over a great-great uncles casket at his funeral in '44. he was a p38 pilot and was killed in an accident where a bomb didn't turn loose until he landed.

That is so neat. I am glad for you. You can pass this along down the line to your kids/grandkids/nephews... And if there isn't anyone pass that, I am always available...

Totally agree. Keepsakes make the best gifts in my eyes...even if you don't use them.
