Go to Woodland Park to the McDonalds and turn right. Stay on that road when you are forced to Y left or right go left when you hit the top you will be behind the Air Force Academy. Then it is just a matter of leg work.
As for Fort Carson I have taken birds on opening weekend quite often. Both Rampart and FC are better during the week. If you head south, start now there is a lot of ground down there to look at to find birds. And check the regs to make sure what is open to an over the counter tag.
