Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Didn't get to shoot him though
I would always wonder if that's because he saw you with the light. Sometimes a bird may not bust off the limb but he takes note of what's going on. He might gobble and strut on the limb still. At flydown he just avoids that area where he saw that unsual thing earlier. I go no light other than the moon. I know my route to various set ups and if it's thick I give myself more time.

I think if you don't know the land and don't have this luxury it would be the lesser of 2 evils. Better a little light to shine instead of crashing and making noise like was mentioned. In that case I have heard green light as well. I have an led flashlight with colored lens cover. I use blue for deer and if I did use for turkeys I'd use green. Don't know if that's been tested and proven or a hunter myth? Anyone know definitley (I mean actual reason and not feild proven speculation)?

Do you hunt near me?Yes?Then I'd say that lights don't bother turkeys...[8D]

I do not use a light.

I only use a flashlight when I know I am out of sight of the roost area then turn it off, your eyes adjust and you can see well in the dark. Also you can get an army flash light at a surplus store they have red, white and green filters you can use and keep it pointed at the ground. Around 8 bucks or a smaller one for 5.

I have a green light on my headlamp I picked up from Cabelas (I believe it's a Streamlight), which claimed to not spook game. So, I'd like to add green to your question about red lights and others experiences when Turkey hunting.

Thanks,

J
Another vote for the Streamlight!!!

Streamlites are it !

Although, I sometimes use a real bright light as I want them ol' gobblers to know right where I'm at .

I have a small green streamlight that I use only when necessary. You will be amazed at how well you can see in the dark if you just turn the light off.

I use a small mini mag light... I try to keep it at the ground as much as possible... once I get to with in about 200 yards I turn my light off and just take it slow

Dang, I need to look through all of my leftover equipment from my USA days. I'm sure I've got a green filter somewhere.
