I would always wonder if that's because he saw you with the light. Sometimes a bird may not bust off the limb but he takes note of what's going on. He might gobble and strut on the limb still. At flydown he just avoids that area where he saw that unsual thing earlier. I go no light other than the moon. I know my route to various set ups and if it's thick I give myself more time.
I think if you don't know the land and don't have this luxury it would be the lesser of 2 evils. Better a little light to shine instead of crashing and making noise like was mentioned. In that case I have heard green light as well. I have an led flashlight with colored lens cover. I use blue for deer and if I did use for turkeys I'd use green. Don't know if that's been tested and proven or a hunter myth? Anyone know definitley (I mean actual reason and not feild proven speculation)?
