I use the biggest loads I can in my Moss 835. I don't mind the extra kick, and since my gun excepts the shells, I go for em.

I have used both & after one season I went back to 3" mags. I have shot several mossbergs & most did a nice job with the pattern but not much better than my 3" Remington did. I think for the few shot extra I got it wasn't worth the recoil.

I would say this; if you go with a gun with the bigger bore diameter then you should be ok with the 3 1/2 loads. I wouldn't want to move that much shot down a standard .665 choke!

I agree with most everyone else a good tight 3" mag. will do the job just fine, oh yea before I forget check out the velocities on some of the shells out there. You might really be surprised at which ones give the most velocity!

As an example the Remington Premier Magnum Turkey Loads in the 3 1/2 “ shell shoots at a velocity of 1150 while the 3” shell shoots at 1175. You get more shot with the 3 ½ but you loose velocity at the price of having that extra shot.

I say stick to the 3” you should get a nice pattern, plenty of power and less recoil.

Your gun will tell you what to shoot. It amazes me how much difference there can be between guns shooting the same load in pattern density.

THIS GOES OUT TO REM74 AND KSHUNTER, ATTA BOY FELLAS! DONT LET THESE GUYS PUT DOWN THE 3.5. IF YOU CANT SHOOT THEM BECAUSE OF THE RECOIL, SO BE IT! HEY, KNOCKEMSTIFF, WITH A HANDLE LIKE THAT YOU OUGHT TO KNOW BETTER YOU CANT JUST GRAB A GUN AND GO! TRY #4'S IN YOUR 3.5. IF YOU DONT LIKE THE GUN I WILL BUY IT. DIFFERENT GUNS WITH THE SAME LOADS STILL SHOOT DIFFERENT. I HAVENT HEARD NOTHING ABOUT THE REMINGTON 3.5. OH, WAIT IT IS A REMINGTON IT CANT KILL NOTHING!TEE!!!HEE!!!!

I'm always amazed everytime I see this topic brought up the same thing stands out from the guys that bang on the 10 gauge.RECOIL,RECOIL,RECOIL.You guys that take a 12 gauge and shoot 10 gauge shells out of it should expect to get your socks rocked off.You want to shoot a heavier load with less recoil than buy a bigger gun.I've shot both 12 and 10 over the years and a 3 inch magnum loaded like they are today rocks me harder than my own 10 gauge loads.I shoot an Ithica mag 10 and have for years and my wife has even shot it.Its an auto and is heavy and takes much of the recoil out of the gun.I can shoot both my 12's,REM 870 express and Winch Ranger with 3 inch magnums and they both will out kick my 10 by a bunch.Yes you guys are exactly right in suggesting that a 12 will get the job done, but so will a 10 and I like the confidence and odds I have in sending 2 1/8 ounce load of #4's traveling at 1240 fps at a gobbler head and neck out there at 35 yards.(My own personal reload)My reccomendation if you want to shoot a bigger load more comfortably than buy a bigger gun,an auto to be exact and you wont be dissapointed!I know I sure haven't!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
