With all the wind and rain I wouldn't have bet you ten cents that we could have killed anything today but a buddy of mine was hot to go because it was the last day of Alabamas season. As it turned out if he hadn't missed a bird we would have scored our second double of the season. We went to a place that we knew the birds had been roosting at about 2:30 this afternoon. I went to one spot and my buddy to another. About 4:45 I hear him shoot. I almost got up and went to where he was. After all the wind was blowing, it was cloudy, dark and I had been rained on twice. What are the odds I'd see a bird too. So I gave one last set of yelps and a bird gobbled across a slough to my right. I couldn't believe it. It would take a long walk to get on his side but I said to myself, if he answers me one more time I'll make the trek. I yelped and he answered. I walked the lenght of that slough, got on his side and sat down against a big oak. I yelped and he answered. He gobbled about 10 times on the way in. I had one good lane in front of me and figured he'd come up that. I heard him drumming and knew he was close. Then instead of coming up that lane he stepped out into it at 35 yards and I lowered the boom. I stood over him still not believing it. The thunder was rolling and the sky was dark. I can't believe I called one in on a day like this. We barely made it back to the truck before the bottom fell out. Turns out my buddy had one slip in silent on him and spot him. He took a running shot and missed. Here is the tale of the tape with photo. My third bird of the season.
