Had the pleasure to hunt for three days here in Ontario with one of your fellow Americans. He drove up from Ohio to join me and kill his first "foreign turkey" Had a heck of a good time with lots of action.
Day1- with me worrying about whether we'd see or hear a bird we headed out to one of my spots and set up. It was awhile but finally long way away a distant gobble. I was disappointed they weren't in the ridges with us but instaed they were across the river. After tellingmy new friendI was about 50-50 in calling turkeys across this riverwe headed down to give it a try. Long story short it was about 2 hrs of gobbling and calling. Tried everything in the book but they weren't comin' [&:]
Headed to another property in a pine bush. walked in and tried three different crow calls. Took a few more steps in and I tried a little yelp. Goooobbble! A quick set up and we began working that bird. Another long story short ole "Mr. Pine Tom" as we named him came in almost to the decoys but never quite fully relaxed. He stood at one point down the pine row and stared at the decoy butmy guestheld off with the shot just a bit too far. A nice paint brush beard on Mr. Pine Tom but he eventually walked off
Day 2- off to the pine bush to get after ole Pine Tom and we have good gobbling on the roost across the next property about 1/4 mile. Thought we had some answers but it got quiet for a 1/2 hour. I'm dozing off when in the distance a gooobbble We lay down one series of sublte yelps, clucks and purrs and he says "they're comin". another gobble in the feild and i see the 2 of them in a sprint coming to the purring on my pot call. At this point I make a guess they're going to enter the feild to our right where the dekes are so I point that way. He's facing out so he's good either way. Well they make a hard left and come into the fence line the other side.He asks if he should shoot the first one. I'm pinned down now and they are 20 yds the other side so I say "i can't move. You go ahead and shoot" (came all that way so it's his bird to egt no messin around) 15 yds 2 white heads through the brush. Kabooooom! The next turkey jumps into the lane to our left 10 yds out with his back to me. Can't see a beard? Is it a longbeard? seems like a big turkey. hmmmm, what to do???? (turkey still standing there!) Ah man, that turkey wants to die
Kaboooom!

Hisjake was in at 15.4 and that is a jake for me as well with almost a full fan and weighed in at 18.8 lbs. Didn't think jakes would get that big!
Just a fabulous hunt and it was my first double I toldmy new hunting buddy.Nowhe's been hunting for almost 30 yrs and killed a lot of birds, so man was I proud when I found out I shared in his first double as well!
Day three - we couldn't resist so we went back for Pine Tom. No gobbling across the way just a long way off across the road. (we had heard a shot over at the next property later in the morning the day before and thought another hunter had killed Pine Tom. At 6:30 withhim planning to leave for Ohio at 9am I suggest we go back and try the river birds. I just finish walking over and pulling out the decoys and GOOOOOBBBLE!
Another long story short Mr. Pine Tom was his stubborn ole self and only showed himself through the pine rows at about 75 yds. He would move in close but out of sight then strut back away. That went on for 1 1/2 hours until a distant gobble confirmed he had walked off. We made one move around him but never got him fired up again. 2 days of working him and we have him figured out a little better.
The saga of Mr Pine Tom continues next week..........
Also can't wait to hunt Ohio next year for another double hopefully.
Not a big scorer but some more numbers added for team 10 as well!
