RE: Camo gun??
I've used a black Benelli Nova for 3 years no problems with the black stock or chambering 3.5's.

RE: Camo gun??
Well as Maytom said - ...think about it.....
Now High Gloss finish is soemthing you would want to cover - camo or flack black will make no difference. I use a 11-87 SP Matte finish steel and have done nothing to my stock but rub it occasionaly with steel wool to keep it dull. And it is scoped. Matte black scope Now when pointed at a bird what do you think the bird mught see? Not the gun but will key on Movement! And your buttstock even if high gloss where is that? On your shoulder......covered a bit by your arm... It is the gloss finish - Camo guns to me was a Marketing tool.....sides I don't need no purty gun - I need one that can shoot well and is reliable. RE: Camo gun??
I had a dull brown 870 Express. It was just fine the way it was. I stupidly taped it up once, didn't need to. Actually, I had better luck with it not taped than taped. I did put a camo stock on it, but just because I wanted a synthetic stock to put the R3 recoil pad from Simms on it. I found an $80 camo stock marked down to $13 at Wally World, so I can't complain. If it wasnt for wanting the recoil pad, I'd still be using the dull brown stock.

RE: Camo gun??
The camo gun boom is a direct result of folks with a lot of $$ to spend on a gimmick the gun industry marketed as an essential hunting tool. Camo guns probably won't hurt your chances, but I really can't find a reason to go out and replace all my gunswith newer versions in camo. Countless thousands, perhaps millions, of turkeys have been taken with standard color guns through the ages. Most of my rifles, shotguns, and my one muzzleloader are matte black or dull finished. Blackblends well almost anywhere. I prefer to sit in dark shadows rather than sunlight anyway, so in my way of thinking black is the best camo available.
The best advice I can offer is to get your gun up early while the turkey is still out of range and keep it pointed in his direction. In my experience, most turkeys are spooked by hunters not having their gun ready, which means on their knee and pointed in the direction of the turkey. Once you see the bird you can cover him slowly as he moves toward you until you are ready to take the shot. If he catches you off guard and comes up from an unexpected direction (ithappens) move your gun only when he is out of sight (behind a tree or brush) or strutting with his tail obscuring his vision of you. I've done it that way since 1981, and all the dead turkeys takenduring that time didn't seem to be bothered by the fact that my old Browning A-5 Magnumor mynewer Remington 870 were plain 'ol black with dull wood stocks. |
RE: Camo gun??
ORIGINAL: Ifly If you want to camo it..just get two or three cans of Walmart $1 flat colored paint of your choice. Then break off some branches from the bushes in your yard for template and camouflage it. I wonder how that plasti-coat paint will hold up? |
RE: Camo gun??

RE: Camo gun??
That plastic wrap isn't what it is cracked up to be. I just applied it to my gun and I am not very satisfied with it. I don't think it will be very durable. Wal-Mart sell a fabric sleeve for $6, you just slip it over your shot gun and cut out around the action. I got one but it won't fit my gun, since I have an 8 shot capacity.
