Oh yeah.

The Federal Flight control shells are supposed to pattern best with a non-ported tube. So if you want to keep using them, maybe try something other than the CnC.

Well, a ported choke works by "stripping" or slowing down the wad, seperating it from the shot. So that the wad, which is lighter and faster, won't "push" through the shot, causing a bad pattern.

Well, the Federal Flight controls are designed so that the wad stays with the shot longer. So in reality, if you use a ported choke, you are really doing the opposite of what the shells were designed for. Federal even has this on their web site.

BUT, I have read where a lot of people are getting good patterns with a ported choke and the new federals.

I bought an 835 ultimag last year and was planning on getting an Undertaker or something similar, but wanted to at least try the X-full turkey choke that came with the gun. I was very pleasantly surprized at the nice, tight pattern I got. I have absolutely no reason to change since I get about 15 pellets in the VITALS-meaning brain and spinal cord at 50 yards with number 5 shot.

The Star Dot is a very hard choke to find. I have one in my safe. I had an 835, but sold it. I kept all of my chokes for it though. I plan on buying a 935 later.

I think they quit making the Star Dot. Or at least under the "star dot" name.

Again, I would suggest the Comp-N-Choke. I've seen more than one 835 with the CnC produce awesome patterns.

I have a 935 and i have had some problems out of it. the first 3 shots i shot in it with 3.5 loads a pin came out the bottom and i sent it off to a gunsmith and he fixed it for like $120 or something like that. It still dont work exactly right so im thinkin about sending it back to Mossberg and having them fix it. then i might sell it and buythe newfranchi or a benelli SBEII.

I've got a star dot on my 870. Itpatterned okay, nothing spectacular. Believe it is .668" Constriction. I bought a ventilator around Christmas and will be checking that out soon.
