Used to scout from Janurary on, but over the years this became unnecessary. If u will b hunting the same area u did last season, then u know it already and the best thing u can do is stay out. Scout beginning in mid-late March with your ears & bino's.

I have been scouting alot often, I got 60 yards from a bunch of roosted birds last sat. Sat there until the sun came up and listened tothe sounds of spring in the dead of winter here in Indiana, even though it has not got cold this year. I counted 35 coming off the roost and decide to move to try to get into their travel route. I will taking my video camera next time to film the bird and to also take some video of ASAT CAMO in the field.
