Default SOUTHERN TURKEY HUNTING HELP

Hi just wondering if anyone from the southern states ie Mississippi La or the like could recommend a turkey outfitter for the upcoming spring season. My friend and his wife(computer illiterate thats why im doing this ) are from Ontario Canada and want to turkey hunt the south this year. Any help you could give them would be great. Money is not an issue (within reason)because they will go somewhere they just dont know where. Even if anyone has good private land and want to make some money by having a couple decent Canadians that would work too.
thanks a bunch

lol the thing is when you have to come down there from Ontario there isnt time to find and scout public land. I just figured that if someone had private land they would know whether or not there was birds on it.

This is all part of a traveling turkey hunter. When you head into new grounds or areas, most hunters are faced with the one thing that makes the game that much harder. Because of timeing , you do not have time to spend scouting and you are left with doing this investigateing with a gun in your hand.

When you plan on hunting a area , you try to gather as much info as you can of the area or location you plan on hunting before you leave. Once there its scouting with a shotgun as you hunt it.

You will fine that most place on a very high level that talking to turkey hunters about that special place is not going to cut it. They are after the same feat as you are and really don't give a Hoot whether or not you even see a bird. You have to focus your energy towards the Non hunting local people. These are the people that don't care if you . Jim, Bob, Fred , Sally kills birds , but they will tell you where they have seen birds. This is why there is Outfitters in most hunting areas , they take up most of the foot work towards hunters that do not have the time to do all the foot work needed, unless you are good in the woodsmen ship scills needed to use up a Non Res tag.

Targeting places that are known for turkey hunting only cuts off alot of this work you need to do ...BT

There are very few turkey outfitters in La. Miss. and Alabama have many but your going to pay an arm and a leg. If you want to see tons of turkeys, go to Texas. There are dozens of good outfitters with reasonable prices. You can kill 2 longbeards, meals, and lodging for three days for 800.00 or less. I have found some places for 500.00to 600.00 for all three above. If you can shoot straight you will probably kill your two. You will see all kinds of wildlife. Texas is a special place when comes to turkey hunting, but I still love my tough Louisiana turkeys.

most places I checked before heading to "Bama...most ave $300/day... thats' too much IMHO, but obviously they're getting it. we ARE talking about harvesting no more than 20 lbs of meat... and I won't pay $300 for a 11" beard....Outfitters have gone crazy..altho it's due to many variables, like insurance,etc...but most common workers can't dish out a thousand bucks for a three day hunt...
I can only imagine what an elk hunt costs these days......

thanks for the replies....my buddy talked to some fish and game people in La and they said the same thing...not many outfitters. A generous member here offered them his lease for a reasonable price so they might do that in alabama. Id love to join him but I save my holidays for moose hunting in BC....sorry its not elk but moose are bigger lol. and its with my resident brother so there arent any outfitter fees. I agree hunting is turning into a pay to play game its unfortunate.
