Default custom sawing...

i want to make box calls in construction tech class this year if the teacher oks it....thing is i duno if he will let me use a kit...how would i make the lid so its rounded using wood pieces? i have about every machine at my uses....all types of saw and a jointer and planer...and hand tools ect...or should i talk to him and see if he will let me use the kit? i duno how to go about this...

to shape the lid , use a bad saw to get the lenght and shape and the belt sander to shape the under side or the friction side. Keep in mind that the paddle and box are two different woods, soft wood has better friction then a hard wood. Good luck...BT

thanx...what woods are softer? i think i can make one without the kit...just getting wood and making the blank pieces like come in the kit cut then finishing it from there...so what is good woods to use for the lid and what about the sides bottoms and ends? thanx

Butternut,Mahogany,Poplar,Cherry,Walnut,Cedar are a few soft woods

Maple,Oak being hardwoods

thanx bosstom....one more question...can i use soft woods for the sides and bottoms? or will that make it sound like junk?...what are your favorite combinations and where does each wood go that you like best? thanx alot

thanx bosstom...i am going to draw up the plans tonight and decide on woods and such...and run it by the teacher one day...my first project is another gun rack so i can get a few more rifles out of the cases and on the wall to display with pride! thanx alot...i will be a happy camper if he lets me make bow calls...theres not much work to do a few cuts and assembling...thanx for the help...
