Default number of picture on a 2 gig mem card question

I have an I40 that when I put the 2 gig mem card in it reads that I have 2222 pics avalible, but when I put a new 2 gig mem card in my D55 it said over 4000 pics?? is that just the I40 numbers might not go up as high? or is there really a differenct on how many pics it will take?

It probably has to do with the settings that you have each on set on.

I had both cameras set at highest most number of pics, and the D55 has a higher resolution than the I40 so hmmmmm LOL

It all depends on what setting (megapixels) you have it set at.

No matter what settings you have it on... Every camera takes differant sized pictures.

sure by a few kilobytes but files sizes are based on what megapixel the camera is set to take. The camera has some basic logic on it to do some quick math and give you an estimate of total pics available based on what setting to shoot the pictures at and the size of the card installed.
It's not rocket science.

I understand all that but the I40 is 4 megapixel and the D55 is 5 megapixel, and the 4 megapixel had shown that it has less pictures are avalible then the 5 megapixel, and both were set at the the highest resolutions possible, and both had 2gig cards in it, not that its a big deal I was just curious

and I understand that its just a basic number but it was TWICE the amount 2222 4 megapixel and 4000 for 5 megapixel camera

Could be a number of things.
Are you using a card recommended by Moultrie that was formatted by the camera?
Could also be poor programming in the camera doing it.
Never did like Moultrie cams. Had two and got rid of them because of quality and customer service was horrible.

I think it's just the difference in the different cams. My Bushnell says 1888 pics available when you put a 2g card in it. And that is set at 8mp. Go fiqure?
