In front of your trail camera

RE: In front of your trail camera
Since I buy them 15 at a time I buy them at the local feed store in OH. but I know they have them locally because I turned some PA. guys on to them.
Just look for the brown blocks with the yellow label on them like in the pic. below.
I dont know all the trace minerals, salt etc. that are in them because I dont use them to try to help the deer grow bigger racks, bodies etc. because mineral blocks, licks etc. are useless when it comes to that,
I just use them to get them in front of the camera.
As far as how long they last , I put new blocks out last July and most of them should still be good until I replace them this July, depending on how much they hit them this spring, early summer.
( I just checked many of them when I was out shed hunting last weekend.)
The other thing I found to work really good other than Apples like you mentioned is Buck Bran that you can get from Cabelas, the deer will tear it up, my buddy put 25lbs out of it last friday and it was all gone the next day, but it is alot more expensive than the generic blocks, but I would say it works better than anything else I have come across. i have been using salt w/trace minerals and dicalcium phophate for years with good success.
you can buy it at any feed store. total cost about $22.00 for 130 pounds.
mix 2 salt to one calcium. the calcium is bitter and won't work alone.
i drill holes in an old stump and pour the mixture on top. it will seep into the stump
after awhile. i've seen where they had the stump chewed down to nothing.
once they find it look out. they will have trails getting to it.
they come to it mostly in spring and summer. this is a powder mix which they can consume
faster than a block. hope this helps...

In Pa., is there a requirement to remove bait prior to season, and if so, what are the issues with your methods once season starts. Not trying to start sh!t, just saying. Seems like bait is still there.

RE: In front of your trail camera
yes, you are right. hope this doesn't start any sh!t. we were talking about trail cams and getting pic's.
as far as hunting goes. you can not put your stand near this mineral site, it would be considered baiting.
not allowed in pa. there is a certain distance you have to be away from it.
deer need food, cover and water. if you got the food they will stick around on your property and hopefully not on the neighbors. so for the few weeks we get to hunt them, just don't hunt near these sites.
good luck on the cam pic's...

pennisiside, Yes they are $6.00 each for a 50lb block and they will last between 8-12 months before you have to replace them.
As far as where to get them any feed store should carry them.
crockit, my property is in OH. so I leave them out 12 months a year, in PA. you have to remove any mineral blocks, licks etc. and the dirt around them atleast 30 days prior to the season, or you or anyone else for that matter cannot hunt within I think its 500 yards of the site. (always removed them prior to the season in PA. so im not 100% sure of the distance) Pike
