Yep....Must be the same companies! Just viewed both websites andnoticed that they have the same deer posing for each brand of camera! Same deer, different brand names, different time stamps.......

So when will this "new" camera with the SG guts come out and will it be available in the US? I was going to be putting in an order or an HCO 550 within the next month and if I can't get the same camera size in a side opening case then I woud be very interested.

skin... so I assume this is these are the same cameras (same companies)? Why is it listed as scoutgard and covert? [&:]

anyone have any report on the covert 2?

I mean this thread has 20 pages of good stuff, someone has to be using the new one. Please report if you are.

RE: Scout Guard SG 550. Next Best Camera?

HCO ScoutGuard and DLCCovert are 2 seperate comapnies. www.scoutguard550.com and www.covertscoutingcamera.com are my sites where you can buy both of these cameras. The new camera is exactly that NEW. There are very few of them out there yet. I just took my second delivery of cameras 2 days ago. I will say that I've been using the new cam for a couple weeks and really like it. The night time pics are better and the added weather shield over the lens should prevent moisture from building up on the lens. Both cameras are great. If money is an issue, buy the scoutguard, if you want better night time pics, but the covert II

It looksto mea conflict of interest carrying both ScoutGuard and Covert I. Wonder if these companies have a policy to avoid such situation. Not a good way of doing business like this, IMHO.

Would it be a conflict to sell moultries, cuddebacks, or reconyx? How about a mossyoak dealer that also sells realtree? Both distributors are aware that I sell both brands and there has not been a problem. Most retailers carry lots of cometitors products and I've never heard of one company preventing a dealer from carrying a competitors products. Competition is good for the consumer, and if you are a consumer then I would think you would like that.

hey skin

I was on your websites today....just curious, how is it that these are NOT part of the same company? I mean its basically the same camera...and the websites even have the same game cam pictures on them? I really don't care, but just curious I guess. Heck the original Covert is called Covert SG550 (as in scout guard 550) and appears to be the exact camera. ???

I will probably get the scout guard anyhow, just wondering what the deal is.

Thanks
Mike

Different companies, same manufacturer. Scout Guard is the original first production cam and Covert 1 is a Scout Guard inside with the Covert name branded on the body.

So it's a copycat of Scout Guard even it's by the same manufacturer? We all knowin China people make copycats pretty fast, but rarely do I hear the same manufacturer makes copycat themselves, LOL:D

That's why I said the companies should have apolicy in place to avoid such. For example, if I sellSimmons or Sealymattress and on the floor I display a exactly lookalike and I tell customers, hey, the other one is exactly the same mattress by the same manufacturer but just no "Simmons" or "Sealy"brandname on it.

It's not a conflict of interest if the seller carries both Simmons and Sealy, but it looks strange if the seller has Simmons/Sealy and also some no-name mattress yet claiming to be exactly like the brandname.

I'm still confused. Maybe it only happens in China, never heard of such things in the states[8D]

RE: Scout Guard SG 550. Next Best Camera?

It's called private labeling and it happens industry wide in all manners of products, not just trail cams and hunting stuff. Go to the drug store, look at a bottle of tylenol then look at the bottle of store brand acetemetaphin (sp). How bout your breakfast cereal? Same thing. Same thing and alot of times made by the same manufacturer, sold to competitors to be labeled differently. Chevy-GMC, Ford-Mazda...... It happens in all forms, not just trail cameras.

Site has been very quiet for some time. Question Scout Guard550 battery installs My unit seems to operate on 4 batteries loaded into slot 3 and 4 . Will not operate with same batteries loaded in slots 1 and 2. Is that normal?? last week it was cool here -30 Camera was watching a garbage can in my yard for a local dog. It took about 50 pics at night and during the day all great and then it started to take pics like these. Notice the time stamp. It took about 50 pics like these and then back to normal. Any ideas??

RE: Scout Guard SG 550. Next Best Camera?

hmm, Not sure about the pics. Seems like your unit definately has a glitch. As for the batteries, if youre running just 4 batteries, they go in the slots closest to the hinge on the battery door. Did you get his camera from me? If so, pm me and I'll get you the address to return it. Ill get you a new one out.

No Skindog I was a Canadian model.
Like I said it -30 maybe the IR lens was frozen.

RE: Scout Guard SG 550. Next Best Camera?

-30 is asking alot of a camera rated to -4. I've gotten good reports of the cams working well below -4 when taking pictures. Video seems to be where the cams have problems when you get below-4.

RE: Scout Guard SG 550. Next Best Camera?

I just bought one of these cameras and love it. In the past two weeks it has been operating in someheavy rain storms along with temps ranging from 12F to 70F. I currently have it out on public land using the lock box that is designed for the scout guard with the python cable lock. I'll keep you posted on how it performs over the next few months.

RE: Scout Guard SG 550. Next Best Camera?

Did this happen while you were running it on 4 batteries? It appears that if the power falls below specifications you could get that. I have always noticed that the pics will get dimmer or darker when this happens.Especially inbetween pics. Cold weather will also wreak havoc on batteries. I recommend you keep it on 8 batteries as 4 is listed for emergency or short term usage. Try that and let us know if it happens again on 8 batteries..............

After some testing slot 1 and 2 do not power the camera ever. Unit was on 1 bar for power and slots 1 and 2 batteries checked out at 1.6 volts. remainder were at 1-1.2 volts. Contacted my dealer to find out that he no can sell them but has offered to swap it for a Covert 2. I am going to go that route as this is my second cam since July. Yes I know its the same manufacture but .........

pnut 02-24-2012 04:07 PM

Sure they fell in love with that cam 5yrs ago because that's when they came out and how old mine is.
It still works pretty good but it's no comparison to my Cudde Captures for pic quality.
Video mode isn't that great because the resolution is so small.
I paid $195 5yrs ago.
I'll be honest with you, I wouldn't buy another one since it's technology is 5yrs+ old.
Go with something newer in the same price range.
