The fastest trigger time on a trail camera would have to be the 35mm style (even the 35 is not instant). When you go digital, there is a longer triggering time because of the make up of the digital cameras. Variables will include time to charge the flash for night pictures. Range of flash will depend on the time to charge the flash compassitor, greater the charge, the longer it takes to charge, but the greater the distance. Focus of the digital will also take some time before the camera to trigger. You will also find that most of the faster reaction times in trail cams are from homebrews. Some are near 1 second but most are near 2 seconds in the faster range and some near the 4 second at night in the slower range. 4 - 10 seconds with store bought are not that uncommon.

I have read of one camera which is a digital that has a trigger time of near or under a half a second and is I believe an 8 meg camera. But this is a homne build and the camera was over $1000, plus the control board, and case. The 35 will probually still be faster, but are more costly with developing costs. No camera will be instant, just can't happen, there will always be delay of some kind.

the cuddeback is probably the best for trigger speed, or one of the best for the price. You can find it for as cheap as $229.00 on ebay.

The risk of purchasing on ebay is Cuddeback may not warranty the camera if not purchased from one of their dealers. I purchased a Cuddeback from ebay and the camera was an older model...
