How many pictures???

A friend of mine put out his trail camera on Saturday. I had noticed that it had an SD slot so I brought a 1gig card to put in it. I went out last night to check it and it stated "MEMORY FULL" in the window. I was affraid the SD card didn't work so I pulled it out, placed it in my camera, and to check it. There was only 16 photos on the card. I can put something like 700 photos on a 1gig card. Why did his camera max out with only 16 pictures at 103kb each? I've never messed with a trail camera. Did I need to do something to make it work with the SD card correctly? Are they limited to only 16 pictures? I ran through the menu on the camera and the only setting I saw was for "standard" pictures or "high". I set it on standard before I left in case that was the problem. I noticed this morning when I was looking at the pictures that they were only 103kb each. Doesn't make sense to me. What am I doing wrong?

It's not you, it's either the Card or the camera. To check the card try placing photos from your computer onto the card and try and fill it up. If you can't get 1 gig on the card then the card is bad if you can then the camera is not seeing the card and needs to go back to the manufacturer.

When one of my cameras does something goofy I like to bring them into the house and set them up and see what they do. If it is filling the card with 16 pictures then it would only take 16 minutes to find out and then you can pull the card and see what is on it.
Don't be afraid of that thing, mess around with it and see what is going on.

I'm not affraid of it or anything electronic (retired USAF Electonics Technician and photographer since I was...well along time). The problem is it is not my camera and I don't have a manual on it. The owner looked it up this morning and it is supposed to only have a 256 card in it and I put in a 1 gig. That might be the problem. He is going to put in the right card tomorrow night so we can see what is going on.
