The S40s and S600s are a little slower due to the extending lenses, 3 seconds in the day,4-5 seconds at night. My cams with p41 or P32 are down to about 1 second times. My P41 with a SSS, I know is under 1 second in the day, blistering fast.
I built my cams for a little under $200 a piece. If I score a really cheap buy it now on ebay, I can build them for under $160 bucks. The XLP, pix, and SSS boards are all up to $60 now. I think you can still get a Yeti board for $40, and it is fast too.
