Default patche and ball thoughts

Normally I shoot a GPR ball shooter in .50cal using .490 RB and blue stripe ticking.
I also shoot a Pietta remington new army in .44
Thought:
If I use a thicker patch (say cotton denim) would it be possible to shoot the smaller ball from the GPR?

I dont see why you'd want to shoot a smaller ball. I've seen some shoot a .488? diameter ball for easier reloading but good luck finding a mold like that.

I've read references to using leather patches, old denim is about the same with even the thinnest leather I have. So I tried to load a .490 out of curiosity but was way too tight.

The remmy balls are the only other balls I have.
I doubt loading a .452 RNFP in a patched sabot would do well in my slow twist (the RNFP is for my 45 colt conversions).

I tried it, years ago, didn't work too well...There is too much pressure and the patches burn through as well, accuracy was not good....You can have any size mold made that you want, just contact one of the custom mold makers...

Are you saying the .490s are too tight with pillow ticking or denim??? If so, I would work on different patching material...When the wife goes to fabric shops, I'm always looking for something different, may even run into some linen, that works well too...
