Default Almost time for hunting season

Colder than a witches...... outside today! Last night we got out first snow which was just a very thin dusting which didn't last once the sun broke the mountain tops.

I needed to get out and do some walking, so I got all dressed up, loaded up and took the dog for a nice walk where he spent over half an hour digging through a brush pile for a field mouse he found. It was actually a pretty darn cute mouse believe it or not, looked a lot like a hamster!

A couple things I noticed that I do not like, are having my ball pouch and fire works hanging around my neck. Just the weight and pulling feel just irritates to no end. I'll figure something out where I can sew up a pouch and keep those tucked away in the possibles bag.

As cold as it was, I stayed warm with just my drop sleeve, t shirt and drop front britches. My hands were another story as I had a hard time properly working with the flint and steel due to my fingers feeling hard and frozen. I did get a nice warm fire going while the dog played with them mouse.

The white pants I really want to dye to a brown color. Not a dark brown, but enough so it blends with the forest rather than standing out like that. They do set off the maroon shirt though.

Another option I have is my belt. Notice how I lashed my prime charger to it simply by wrapping its string around the belt a few times and tucking it through the hoop? I might be able to do something like that with my ball bag and leave it attached to the belt so everything comes off easy, easy to read and best of all, off my neck.

Hopefully in Janurary the hog hunt will be on, providing the weather is okay. I'll be dressing up traditional this time to get the full feel of a traditional hunter. I do plan on taking the .50cal St.louis Hawken I am building, but that flinter above, may some along as well!

I am finally getting snow tonight. They said it a blizzard, but I will see in the morning. Deer season Modern starts tomorrow. Good luck on your season.

I hear that!...

Got our first snow here overnight. Temps dropped over 20 degrees yesterday afternoon between 1pm and 4pm. About 1-1/2" of wet snow at daybreak but the ground was warm so it sucked a lot in... about 1/2" left now but cold (20's) and windy with gusts to 40 mph!! Yesterday afternoon it was 62 degrees here in NEPA!

We had a high today of 23šs and I tell you, I was out in the garage and was so cold I started a fire out there. I really put some wood in the stove out there. And it warmed the back room up to 40+ which, with a coat was ok. But more snow is on the way and we are having day time highs this coming week, only in the 30's. So winter is finally here. And it is windy here too!

Isn't it funny that 23* now feels bitter cold. But come about the end of February when its 23* it's NOT THAT BAD! Barry that big temp drop was pretty wild wasn't it? That wind that brought that rapid drop was pretty wicked up the camp. I half expected we were going to need to cut some downed trees off the road to get out of there.
