I determined that "Sterling Jensen" is alive and well and he still makes custom recurves and long bows.

He is 76 years old and has been building bows since the 1950's. He is mainly a "flight" shooter and has, in his time, set some world flight records. However, he has competed in "Field and Indoor" archery". Apparently he can still average 295 in indoor shooting. He is and has been close friends with many of the renowned shooters and bowyers, private and well known manufacturers, like Gail Martin of Martin Bows. He has also built bows for competition shooters that have and still shoot in the big shoots.

His priority is not the money, he just loves to make bows. Do not hold me to it, but he said he could make a bow that will be of the quality of high priced bows, or better. I won't state what his rough price quote was, but it is far below what some of the more popular custom bows cost. He also makes a performance limb that has a design that no other recurve limb does. This man obviously knows the technical aspects of a bow and arrow flight, yet he clearly explains it in a layperson's language.

Being he loves to make bows, he often has bows ready made. Depending on what a customer wants, he can build a bow in 4 to 6 weeks.

At this time, a friend of his in Logan, Utah is selling several of his bows on eBay. Go to the "recurve" section of the archery category and type in "Sterling" in the "search" bracket.

In addition, I highly suggest you call Sterling and have him explain what a good performing recurve should be and have him explain how he builds his limbs. He is a very pleasant person and will talk as long as you need to.

I took these two pics off a simple ad photo made by an individual that is selling some of Sterling's stock. They obviously don't display the bows in a way that does full justice to them.

I purchased two recurves from Sterling. When mine arrive, I will post some better photos/

Lilhunter:

Just got off the phone with Sterling. Yes, Sterling does make 1 piece and 2 piece RD longbows; to your specs and wood choice. Cost is approx $495.00. Cost sounds good for a custom made longbow. I don't know because I don't buy longbows.

However, you need to call Sterling, he has a dozen or more custom longbows already made, of different poundages and woods. Cost of LB in stock will be less.
