Kota Longbows
I was at a sporting goods store in Fargo and looked at a Kota longbow. I fell in love! I've never shot a longbow before, but this felt really good. Are Kotas good bows? I know Joe Blake (writer for Bowhunter) shoots one.

I've never even heard of a Kota bow so I'm no help there. My advise is, though, if you liked it and it felt good to you then go for it! Many people have many opinions but in the realm of a bow, yours is all that counts.
And, yeah, longbows just "feel good." <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Sorry--if I ever shot one I don't remember it. All I have seen about them was in advertisements--but I haven't heard anything negative about them either. Try to contact the bowyer, and get some references, see what kind of warranty he offers, etc. As PowDuck said, if it "fits" you, that is the main thing. Good luck!

They are made by a bowyer named Tim Finley in North Dakota I have read. I have no experience with them and have never shot one but what I have read elsewhere they are as good as anything else out there(with the exception of Howard Hill Longbows of course) and people that own them like the bow.

I shot one of their recurves and it was a smooth bow, but felt funny to me with the non centershot shelf. It was definitely a nice bow. I was walking by....and the guy said "hey, you want to shoot this bow?." Good tactic, got me to shoot it.

You looked like a lost kid in a candy store. It wasn't that good of a tactic because you didn't buy it. I wish Craig Ekin of Howard Hill Archery would have been there. Three years ago when he was I shot several of his longbows. He let me try his 60#@28" Wesley Special and it was so beautiful. As I stepped up to shoot the heavens opened, music started playing with angels and doves flying around and I took three shots. Each arrow was a heart shot and they where touching each other and right then and there I knew it was a sign. I went to Craig and said I want that longbow and I plunked $430.00 down on the table and it was mine. At least that was how I explained it to my wife when I got home.

Chessbum,
It's a good thing you're not made out of wood. Your nose would probably be long enough to make a bow! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

It was a good tactic....my locic:
He saw me and said "that dorky kid probably spends all his time on the internet talking bout trad bows and the like. I will have him shoot this bow, then he can tell everybody how tasty it is."
For the record.....it was a tasty bow. See....it worked <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I shoot a Kota 3 pc TD longbow and really like it. Tim stands 100% behind his bows and is a reak nice person to boot. If you like the bow and it shoots well for you ,you cant go wrong. Im going to see Tim next month at the South Dakota Bowhunters convention and will be ordering another set of limbs.
