Default Mechanical Release OK

Not wanting to start a religious debate here... Is it OK and/or technically possible to use a mechanical release with a recurve?

I've seen people do it. From what I've seen, it works particularly well with an elevated rest of some sort. Is it OK? Depends on who you ask. There will always be the hardcore traditionalist who will scream heresy at the idea.

I know a fellow who had some problems and had to start using a release with his recurve. He's a heck of a shot with it.

Is it ok? Not for any tournament I know of, but it keeps him shooting. He just shoots for fun and doesn't compete. For hunting, if it's legal then go for it. For me, it's just one more thing to loose/break/forget.

I remember back in the late 70s and early 80s when some people were using flipper releases. I have not seen it since. I do know a few who use thumbrings.
