Default What am I doing wrong?

Maybe someone here can help me. I've made the plunge into a new adventure in traditional archery from shooting a compound many years. I purchased the Martin Savannah and a dozen Grizzly Stix Sitka's. Everytime I loose a bare shaftarrow, thepointhits to the center of the target but the tail end hits to the left of center. Now I raised and lowered the point grainto see if the spine was wrong but that was not it. I decided to see what shooting from a release would do, sure enough, it hit straight on. What am I doing wrong in my release? How do I adjust for it?

Sound to me like your bow arm is moving after the shot. Your bow arm should be solid during and after the shot. Bare shaft only works if you have good form. Also grip is very important. Shoudl be loose.

I can shoot my savannah better than any bow I have, and I have 5-6. I always go back to it.

You know one thing I found out just last year, is if you add any type of boot to the lower tip, it made my savannah shoot so much louder and I had trouble shooting.

Without seeing you shoot I'm making a guess.

It could be in your grip. Some bows will require a very loose grip and some will require a tighter grip. You may also find that a tighter grip will keep your bow arm more stable (never stangle the bow though). You'l probably have to experiment a little.

On the impact of the arrow my guess is that it is in your release and possible tension in your fingers along with a possible pluck. Use as much back tension as you can and pull through the string. (easier said tehn done).

If you are just starting through don't worry about bare shaft tuning. Just shoot and get your form down. You can only tune as well as you can shoot.

Excellent advice, I think Bob nailed it when he said this:

"If you are just starting through don't worry about bare shaft tuning. Just shoot and get your form down. You can only tune as well as you can shoot. "

This will save you a lot of beating your head off a wall!

shoot at hay bales without any target don't aim just work on the mechanics of the shot .such as anchor point, grip, finger position on the string ,and your bow arm.use the same method to draw the bow from a relaxed position to full draw.Good Luck
