Default The Pass Around Build A Long

I just got done ripping the woods for the riser and limbs on the table saw.

Some still need a bit more taken off the width.

I will probably have to add another piece to the riser after I run them through the drum sander, but I will work that out later.

I was going to use 8 different woods in the riserbut changed my mind

Ok so here is what we have so far.

The riser woods.

From top to bottom of the riser woods are.

Zebrawood, Purple Heart, Yellow Heart. Red Heart and Morado.

For the limbs I have decided on Makore for the belly and Yellow Heart for the back.

With all the woods ripped to width I put them through the drum sander to clean up the saw marks.

I was right I have had to add a thin piece to get the 1.5" width.

Here they are all ready for glue up.

I have them in the heat box to make sure there is no moisture in them when they come out I will do the glue up.

Here is the riser block fresh out of the heat box.

When it cools down I will take the clamps off draw on the riser shape and cut it out.

Ok marked the riser shape and rough cut it on the band saw.

Then it's over to the belt sander and sand to the lines.

Next step is to the jointer to make sure where out limb are gonna go is square.

So now we are at this stage.

Not much more I can do to the riser at this stage except drill and tap the holes for the locking hardware, but I better leave something for tomorrow

There still is some glue left on the riser but thats no big deal all of that will come off when I do the final shaping.

The Morado side will be where the sight window and shelf will be.

Damn your quick!! My dad and brother both made a longbow 15 years ago and It took them at least 2 months to get It done. Dad still hunts with his today, my brothers top limb has a crack In his so he retired It. It's still fixable I believe.

Great pics!! Keep em coming!!

Steve.

It's not like I have a job each day for 8 hours too keep me away from the building

I bet they did not have the power tools that are widely used today
