Simplest way is; While the bow is unstrung, take a piece of string, hold it at the top of the nock grove, the run it down the back of the bow. Making the string follow the contours of the limbs. When you come to your riser, dont follow the contour, run it straight across, then follow the contours of the other limb. When you get to the top of the next nock, cut it or mark it. Then measure your string. Subtract about 3" for longbows and 4" for recurves, and you got your AMO. I simply use a flexible tape measure and just use it as my string. I clamp the 0" mark at the top of nock groove at the limb tip with a spring clamp, then follow the contours of the limbs.

59 1/2" from grove to grove measuring with a string while the bow was strung. Round off to 59" then?

Schultzy, what figure did you get when you measured "burniegoeasily" way of doing it with the bow "unstrung and with a string"?

The way you diagrammed and I was told, must be wrong because the measurements would definitely be different from your way to burniegoeasily way.

That's how I came up with my measurement with the bow strung. I went by my diagram which I think was the same way Burnie explained It also. Someone enlighten me here, did I do that right? I found some small little string and made a loop and connected It to the grooves on the top limb and followed down the line in my diagram to the next groves on the lower limb. I'm getting confused here![:@] Some one take my picture and outline where someone Is suppose to measure bow length with a bow strung If I did It wrong.

Well lets just stop here and "think", I'm serious!

burniegoeasily told us to measure from the "BACK" of an "UNSTRUNG" bow! Schultzy you keep referring to measuring from a "STRUNG" bow, stop and think, strung vs unstrung.

The bow has to be "unstrung" for measuring the burniegoeasily way.
To make it real simple just take the string OFF the bow then follow the instructions.
