Default Gotta' Brag...

...on a young lady, who is the daughter of one of my best friends. At 17 yrs. young, she's already racked up quite a few whitetail kills with a rifle--I think he killed her first when she was 11 or 12 (her dad is one of the best hunters I know, so she had leg up on most). She's petite, a beauty queen, but also very athletic (the star of her softball team, and will be going to college on a softball scholarship)and loves the outdoors. For some reason, she never took up archery, at least not to any extent.

A few weeks ago, her boyfriend killed his first deer with a bow. It was a compound, but he shoots it barebow. Dan (my buddy) had taught him to shoot just a couple of weeks earlier. Seems that her competitive nature just couldn't let that go! So she starts shooting one of Dan's recurves, but it's a bit too much weight for her to shoot comfortably. I loan them one of my son's recurves, arrows, and broadheads. It was a bit late to try to get her set up, and he wanted to be sure she's serious before making the investment. The recurve she borrowed is 38@28, but she only draws maybe 25". The arrows are Beeman ICS Hunter Junior (carbons), tipped with 125 grain Ace 2-blade (Meteors, I think). As best I can guess, she's pulling around 32# at her draw. No weight tubes or anything like that in the arrows--they weigh less than 400 grains.

She shot her mature doe (didn't ask the weight, they just said it was a big doe--the biggest of four that came into the food plot) quartering toward her (not a good choice of course), and the shot was (obviously) perfect, going through the back side of the shoulder for about 8" of penetration. The doe ran downhill about 70 yds and piled up.

She was hunting from one of my Ameristep Penthouse blinds--the same one her boyfriend killed his doe from a couple of weeks ago. I think Dan is more excited about it than she is!

Anyhow, just wanted to share. I have some pics coming, but I don't know how to post them.

Chad
