RE: insert adhesive
Rangeball, that's what I have been told by some buddies that have been using it for a while. I have used the HOT water trick to loosen Power Bond. I would heat water to almost a boil then let the arrow tip rest in it for a few minutes then use a vise or vice grip to hold the fieldtip then wiggle the arrow shaft and it comes out.Like I stated above it expands as it cures so you don't need a lot.

Excellent.
Thanks a bunch :) |
RE: insert adhesive
ORIGINAL: RLoving1 denatured alky I had thought about acetone on a q-tip followed by clean water on a q-tip to rinse. Too risky, or should it work? Other wise I'll swap ends and put the inserts where the nocks are. Finished arrows will look funky cause the graphics will be toward the point, but what the heck. |
RE: insert adhesive
I went with gold tips and they are black. I had some of the camo arrows from walmart and if I hit something solid the nock always bounced out. Think I am going with a heavier weight next time or at least heavier inserts I do not like the ones I have but they are cut to fit with little extra clearance.

RE: insert adhesive
ORIGINAL: Centxrecurve I had some of the camo arrows from walmart and if I hit something solid the nock always bounced out. Just for posterity, I was successful in removing the insert adhesive residue from the shaft and now the brass insert slides in perfectly. I tried just using acetone applied with a q-tip and letting it sit for varying times, without much luck. Today I used a long deck screw, inserted it in the shaft and worked it back and forth like a scraper, rotating the shaft as I went. Worked like a charm, and very quickly too. When I bought the gorilla glue at Walmart, I noticed GG has an "impact resistant" super glue version. I didn't buy it, just the regular GG to facilitate later removal, but I thought some might be interested in the new stuff. |

Mike.
You ever try those Broad Heads I sent ya????????????? |
RE: insert adhesive
Not 'till I get the brass inserts, uhm, inserted... then I have to re-fletch the shaft... Works been hell the past several weeks.
I was impressed enough with them to go ahead and order some of the 160 grainers. Trying like hell to get them sharp with the single bevel broadhead pro, but man, are they hard. Don't have a lansky, and the one my dad had mysteriously dissappeared... I'm either gonna have to break down and buy a lansky or one of the files Dr. Ashby swears buy and try to set the angle free hand. How fine a stone do you work up to with the lansky? Any trouble setting the bevel to 25* with it? |
RE: insert adhesive
Mike.
They are some of the hardest broad heads I have found with a rockwell 51 but once you get them sharp they will stay that way for a long time and only need a touch up with a leather strop. Another way you can get them sharp is with one of these. You just have to keep one side flat against the back side of the head. Then strop them on leather. |
RE: insert adhesive
That's basically what the broadhead pro is, a carbide cutter but this one is specifically for single bevel and takes them down to 25*, what the good Dr. ordered.
Hard is an understatement. We need to come up with a new word for them as they are on a plane of their own... :) |
RE: insert adhesive
I shoot Goldtips and ACC's - have always used low temp hotmelt with not problems.
My friend sells 400 to 500 doz carbons a year and uses the same. Heat the field point gently and the insert will pull out. Steve |
