This selfbow thing is nuts. I have made a shaving horse, bought all the tools needed including a bandsaw, starting on my second bow, putting snakeskins and horn nocks on my first, friend sent me a pac yew stave to start next, I have cut down a black locust tree to start staves drying, identified another pignut hickory to cut staveout of todry this weekend, found a osage tree up the street and am going to stop and ask if I can take a few straight pieces from it this winter. Someone please stop me.

I'm jealous--I don't have the time or money to invest, but if I did I'd be right there with you. I hope to get back up to TN and build another one or two before the year is out. Only about a 5 hour drive, figure I could get a couple built in 3 days, if I tried hard. 'Course I'd have great advice and adult supervision while doing it--makes a huge difference--not to mention every tool I could possibly need. Maybe one of these days when I grow up and get rich I'll be able to adda selfbow shack to my shop..........

I really envy you. I would definitely like to try it sometime, but with the tools I have to buy for work, I am short on room in the shop and money to spend. Be sure to post pics when you get them done.

Good news is guys all you need is a hewing hatchet, a 10 dollar ferriers rasp, a 10 dollar 4 in one rasp, a 5 dollar chainsaw file, and I got 2 draw knifes off ebay for 20 dollars. And I built a shaving horse for 10 dollars of scrap lumber. I would say 50-70 dollars to get started.

You still shooting compound?
You still shooting compound?
But I have offered to trade that for a BW longbow guy has on archery talk. I figured if he says yes, it was meant to be that I no longer shoot wheels.
Funny thing is now that I am almost weened off of wheels, the guys I hang out with, tells me its time to be weened off of fiber glass and carbon and aluminum. Soon I guess I will be running thru the woods saying oogabooga.
