Howatt/martin recurves are some of the quietest recurves shot or heard shoot...Not sure if it was the particular bows or setups?? Or just the design of the bows/limbs?

Sometimes when my release is perfect my Martin Hunter is even quieter than my custom M.R. Hamilton Scorpion longbow. Most often though it is a little louder.

There's a lot of things that go into getting a quiet shot. How the string is made, silencer material, silencer placement, right amount of silencer (too much can add noise in some cases), bow design, bow tiller, bow tuning, nock fit, your release, arrow weight, arrow tuning....it's not just one or two things.

If you do your part, most any bow will be reasonably quiet. Get a few things off, and most any bow will be noisy--or at least noisier than it should be.
