I would love to start shooting traditional and hopefully get a good hang of it by the time rut swings around...
I am just wondereing what a good bow would be, I don't want my girlfriend to chop me up because I bought a bow that cost an arm and a leg. I guess that my main question is..what would it cost to get set up to take out to the woods with a traditional setup?

Hello, My first set-up cost me and this included arrows, glove, points and broadheads, under 200.00, I got the bow off E-Bay for 75.00.
If this is your first trad bow, then I would recommend you get a light weight bow to start off with, I don't care if you can pull 75 pounds back with your compound, you buy a 55 or 60 pound recurve or longbow and it will beat you up. Don't get over 50 pound draw at your draw length 45 is even better and still plenty for deer.
I just gave away a 40 pound recurve to a disabled chap, so he can shoot archery, or i would have offered it to you. Good luck. Oh, Take a pruse on E-Bay and check out the bows, and then come back and ask us about your choices.

I was looking at recurves. Does Bear make a pretty good bow? How tall of a bow should I be looking for? I don't think that I would have too much of a problem with a 50 pound bow. I do a lot of heavy weightlifting, so I think I might be a little prepared for it. I know drawing a bow is different than lifting weights. Thanks for the help so far.

Weight lifting OK, My grandfather could lift a bull, but he could not pull a bow.
Anyhow, Bear makes a fantastic bow, I am 5'10" and pulled a 52" bow no problem, if i were to do it again, I would opt for 54-60" Are you right handed?
Below are a couple, and that first one is a great deal.
