Default Shot at 50 yards for the first time!

........no I still suck.

But I (no lie) was 1/2" out of the X ring on the first shot with my Montana Longbow........I turned to the guy I was shooting with and went kinda like this.[:-]

I then proceeded to bounce the next one of the black tarp under the wooden frame, skipped one of the frame to the left into the weeds, stuck one in the very bottom off the paper and FINALLY managed to get another arrow that would score. LOL

(I did do better in subsequent tries .........but not much.)

HOWEVER!!!
After lots of shooting at 30-50, I suddenly became fairly respectable at 20 yards, and downright deadly ,if I do say so myself, from 15 yards and in.
At 20 yards I could pretty consistently keep 4 out of 6 arrows in a circle about the size of one of those small serving plates (not a dinner plate not a saucer)
I was tickled at my progress.

But boy is it fun shooting long range (when you have a good backstop where you don't have to worry about missing) It was funny to be able to call where the arrow was going to hit long before it got there. LOL
Last group I was able to keep all 6 on the paper in some fashion so I was improving and boy does it help your form........a "pluck" is downright ugly at 50 yards.

Anyway, just some ramblings.......havin' fun.

Long shots are fun, and great for form practice--the further back you get, the more mistakes will show up--a pluck, torque, short draw, etc. really tells on you. If you can get a tight group at 50+ yds, it makes 20 yds and in a chip shot. This thread reminds me I REALLY need to get out and work on some long distance shots........

sure is Matt, Long winters make it tough to get out to the outdoor range. Still 30 below up here and enough snow you'll loose arrows if ya miss. Ok ok so ya just dont miss right lmao.

Hey Chad,

Stop chasing that blasted goat around and maybe you'll get more shooting time in.....now hows those apples

Ain't been a goat around here in a few years! Got 6 dogs, 3 cats, a horse, and a couple of cows that belong to my brother (I don't claim any of them). Too many strings to make to spend much time shooting--think I'm down to 40 or 50 at the moment though......

Long shooting sure is fun. The shop I go to has outdoor 3D in the sumer, and they have an elk set up at 80-100 yards, and we shoot at it, AT being the key word. Good way to unwind after a round of 3D though. I think I've hit it twice, and missed MANY more times!

It's always tough to shoot at a target you can't actually see.

We have a Buffalo Target at the club set out at 100 yards. And yes, actually hitting it is very fun.

Matt - remember (and I'm serious), you did it once and you can do it again!

Bob,
The funniest group.......and this also not an exaggeration was first arrow at the highest point on the celotex that you could get without hitting the frame and each arrow was roughly 8" under the previous one until I drew a perfect straight line down the target from very top to very bottom. LOL[8D]

The only good part was that if you drew a line through all the arrows it was dead center of the X'ring.
I was like "A little lower.......a little lower.......not bad found it.......ooops too low........ahhh crap.........ahhhhhh rat farts I give up."

Hey that has to be harder than simply putting them all in the same spot right?(My shooting buddy was impressed anyway)
