Default Longbow... wood or aluminum?

If you shoot a longbow, do you use wood or aluminum arrows and why? Do you shoot off the shelf, hand or rest? Thanks!

I shoot both, but prefer cedar. Why? Cause they tend to wiegh more, and for my longbow, I want a 550-600gr arrow. Second, they are much more quiet shooting, and third, I just like the idea of shooting Port Cedars or wood. Bad news is I am having trouble getting a consistent dozen arrows.

With my aluminums I shoot better. They are more consistent of course for spine and straightness.

I wrestled with this question for the same reason. I decided to go with aluminium. Like bigcountry said, they are more consistent. Would really love to shoot cedars personally, but I want to be as accurate as I can, so I felt aluminiums were the way to go. I like the Easton Legacys. At least they have the wood-grain look.

I'm just getting my Bear Cub tuned well. I am shooting 2016 alauminums. I may try wood later when I get some shafts made. But for now I will stick with alum. For me they are easier to tune and I need things as simple as I can get them.

I pretty much shoot aluminums on my longbows and recurves. At some point though I'd like to try some Grizzly Sticks.

Woods and carbons.

I prefer wood. Just love to see a nice cedar flying. I shoot carbons with added weight tubes as well.

I have never used wieght tubes. how do you install them?I guess you glue them in at a location where your desired FOC is? I wouldn't mind to try some of the carbons classics with the fake wood grain but I need over 530gr total wieght.

Weight tubes run the full length of the shaft(less nock & insert).I use both 2gr/inch and 3gr/inch--depending on how heavy I need to get that carbon up to
