Just wondering what the general concensus was on what to use as a nock point? Generic nocks, string nocks, one of the various two piece nocks that screw together?

Maybe its a dumb question, but I am just not happy with mine. I am using the "C" shaped nocks that you buy in a pack of four and just about cut the serving everytime you try and get it off. I am trying a couple of different arrow types right now and in order to get them to fly right, I occasionally have to move the nock up or down. Sooo, surely there must be a better way. I am thinking about a string nock (the kind you tie on to your serving and glue and if done right, you can twist it up or down to get the desired height) but I am worried that it may twist it's way up or down without me noticing when I shoot as the string rolls off my fingers.

What are your guys thoughts on the subject? Thanks for your time gents!

I use brass nock sets, and "Pro Nock" pliers. They have a nock remover on them that lets you take it off without damaging the serving. They cost a bit more than regular nock pliers, but are well worth it in my opinion, especially if you use brass nock sets.

I start off using brass nok points,but once i find where the arrow shoots best(cleanist arrow flight)i mark down the measurement and tie on a nok point out of braided fast flight.That way my nok will never move and it can't feel it on my finger when i draw.You will also pick up a little speed (3/4fps)not that it is a big deal with my recurve.Bill

Thanks guys. The only reason I asked is that I got out this morning, tenish, and decided I needed to move the darn thing down and when I started to unclamp the thing, I cut the serving. Now listen to this: today is my only off day until next Sunday, I cut the serving this morning, on the only day that every bowshop in Mobile, AL is closed, and I am going to have to drop the thing off on my way to work and pick it up on my way home tomorrow just so it can sit under the bed until next Sunday. So to cap off the day, I have been slightly frustrated and bored.

How's that for a Sunday?

I am sure that it can't be that difficult. I kinda get the endless wrapping part, it's just the knots at the beginning and end that I don't know anything about! That's just one of those few things that I haven't really sat down to buy the supplies or read the info on procedures.

As for the Shoots of the Northern Mississippi region, maybe. I haven't ventured further than Jackson but make regular fishing trips to Pascagoula, Moss Point, Gautier and Biloxi. Aside from the distance, I have a really weird work schedule. I work at Kmart (you have to promise no to tell anyone) and usually I only have one day a week off and its most often during the week so I wouldn't be able to correspond any overnite stays at hotels or such. So as of right now, that is out, but I may be able to meet you half way some day. Besides, I just started the Traditional thing and I haven't met a single shooter that doesn't use a compound and I would like to see some of you other enthusiasts.

Pyral, here are the best on-line directions I've seen on serving a string. Pretty much all the 'knots' are is a simple whip finish. An archer simply MUST know how to replace a busted serving.

When you get the serving process down, you're 2/3's of the way to making your own bowstrings.

I am also tying on my nocks. Either using number 4 nylon or spectra, both serving materials. Then coat with a light coat of duco, you are still able to twist to move up and down this nock point as long as you dont saturate it yet. Once you have things where you want them, then really rub a coat or two more of duco in. So far mine have help up to a slew of bad weather hunting.

I use unwaxed dental floss and wrap a nock above and below. when I get them where I want, I cover them with goat-tuff glue. they are then good for the life of the string.
