Floxter,
"I should point out that I'm cross dominant, so I shoot right handed with my left eye closed. "

Me too! Although I am not left eye dominant, my right eye is not selfish and will from time to time let the left eye have a turn. Closing my left eye has really helped my shooting. Most surprising is that distance judgment has not been a problem. Maybe because I do not close the left eye until I start the draw.

Hobbes,

You are going to have so much fun! What the other guys have said is right. My only advice is to have fun, enjoy the journey, and give it some time. Don't expect to have the accuracy, initially, that you have with your compound.

Hobbes,

I owe my traditional shooting style to Rick Welch. I bought a bow from him and have his Instructional Vol.2 video.
He stands straight up and draws his string back and anchors with the first knuckle of his thumb touching his ear lobe and the cock feather of the arrow touching the end of his nose. A double anchor.
He also stresses 3 under and believes it's more forgiving and easier to hit with compared to split finger.
He's a 14 time 3-D traditional world champion so, I figure, he knows much more than I and most other shooters what it takes to shoot accurately.
As far as closing one eye or keeping both open when shooting...
I prefer both open, especially when hunting.
Your depth of field perception is limited when closing one eye and you're losing half the light available to you when picking a spot to aim at.
You have less chance of wounding game and missing your target when you keep both eyes open.
I've won a few handgun shooting competitions in the past.
No way, I could have won by closing one eye. JMO.
If you check, you will discover virtually all of the champion shooters, whether pistol, rifle, shotgun, or bow, shoot with both eyes open.
Once you shoot with both eyes open and get used to it, you'll wonder why you didn't always shoot that way.
Good luck and good shooting.
