They are called Horse bows because they are the style of bow traditionally used by horse riding, often nomadic peoples. The Huns, Mongols, etc. They are short compact bows that can be easily draw while riding horseback, although they are also found in the Scythian culture. (think the classic Greek works showing archers. the "heart shaped" bow of Dianna, etc.) Traditionally you will find many (most?) were composite. Made with horn limbs and wood risers and tips. I have seen documentaries where they tested traditionally made long bows against horn bows and found that the horse bows were capable of faster and heavier hitting shots. But that may have something to due with the higher draw weights conbined with the deep recurve shape of the bow.

(all subject to accuracy of my memory)

ArrowTip:

That is a beautiful horsebow! You going to stain it a light or dark?

You must have been deeply inspired by horse archery, which is one very powerful aspect of archery history. I am sure you are going to love this bow. Where didja get it? (I shoot a longbow). -Bruce

Awesome! How does it shoot overall, and compared to a "regular" recurve of similar length? Most important, what draw weight did you go with?

it is a 50lb pull and 31 draw length. it is alot shorter than my recurve. It shoots fast, but i need to canter it to the right. Notice that there is not a arrow rest on it.

Wow! Neat! If I told you I was interested in one, would you recomend the same poundage as I would use on a typical recurve, or a little lower? Or higher?, although I wouldn't imagine that to be the case.
