Default cutting lams

I'm in the process of cutting my fiberglass and limb core pieces to the rough length of 28 inches. What should i cut them with. I'm trying tin snips, but i think it might be cracking the fiber glass.

I heard somewhere that if you put masking tape around the lam (wrapped around the whole width of the lam in a strip about an inch wide) and cut it with tin snips, the glass wouldnt crack as much. Never tried it but it sort of makes sense. If in doubt, just cut it an inch or 2 longer.
