new crusader
Well I had to pull out my new crusader 64 pounder to become my primary bow today. I new I was close with my 60lb bows arrows but wasnt really sure. I just didnt figure on what was to follow.
The past two days I have spent almost 8 hours playing and tinkering, not to mention sold a bow and set up another customer while tinkering with mine for the shop LMAO......time for commission eh.
Well I was constitently tearing nock high. The nock point is sitting almost at 3/4" now and its only tearing a half inch. I went higher to no avail
I will tell ya this, I have never before been impressed with a bows "ability to shoot" (shooter friendly), and man this thing SMOKES my 615-635gr arrows. I havent put it officaly in numbers, but I wouldnt be suprised if she's pushing 200 or better.
Anyways, I did some farting around with the nock point, then the brace height. I ended up with a lower then normal bh and a super high nock to get it close.
Now for the kicker. A bud in anchorage is willing to pay me to come pick him up 6 hours each way, then head up north for bou, then haul him back home! MONDAY. Like I am saying no. Looks like my old bow is going to get one more workout before she hangs forever on the memory lane ceiling hook. I am hoping I can do some bit stiffer plane jane arras up tomorrow and maybe get the new boy spitting straight cuz man I could shoot through a hole herd of bou with it hehe!
Any ideas on the consistently high tear? I can see a kick before I left but ended up with a super low bh, lower then I wanted and ran out of time (the wife kills me after 4 hours at the range <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>)! So I'll twist the string back up to where I had it close but man I just like it perfect. The only thing I can think of is I am to weak. If my form is perfect, the arrow flys fine. The bh's are flying tomorrow, wish my backstop luck its still in one piece! I have ran the np from dead even to 1" high and 1/2" tear is as close as I could get. With the 60 pounder I could punch bullet holes. With the 64 it was punching bullets at 10 and 15 yards but just a tad high at 1/2". SO I guess another question would be, just how much oscilation is acceptable out of a non centershot longbow? 6-8 steps out? How far out does a properly spined arrow finally recover from this paradox on the norm? I am not a big paper tuner man, but figured it was worth some fun, same with bare shaft, I do a little of both and after some time of tinkering can get it perfect. I was thinking I could shorten the shafts I am shooting currently but....umm...have no where to go lol, the 29" arrow is right up on the shelf (bh touching my finger) where I like it. ALmost a draw check if you will and in the case of my first sheep, something to keep me from drawing to far lol.
Btw, Pigdog, where in the world are you? I shot ya an email, and called the house, talked to the wife but figured you are a slave of the bowyers "den" and dont come out of hiding but once in a blue moon. So if ya see this shoot me an email, either email is fine!

RE: new crusader
From what you have said, I agree with John--probably something about your release doing it.
You probably are getting close to 200 fps. I chronographed my new Crusader today (first time ever) and I was getting in the mid 180's(had a couple of high 170's when my release was not good). I will have to weigh my arrows, but if I did the math right they weigh well over 600 grains--around 640, I believe, and I am pulling [email protected] Shot one carbon, no idea what it weighed, got 215 fps with it. Plenty fast enough to kill a deer.

RE: new crusader
trigger finger do its part? Explain. Like I said before, getting perfect bullets hasnt ever been "mystical" in my bowhunting exploits with trad gear, to include my last bow, my first crusader. But for some reason it likes to show tail high. What is my trigger finger doing to cause this?
Also what is an acceptable distance for a longbow shooter to be shooting through paper, being there is no doubt regardless of how perfect the set up, archers paradox happening? And how far out would a perfectly spined arrow be flying true? I would think a few feet out, being the arrow is going to bend around the riser, then bend back, at a minimum. At 8 steps I have no left or right, just a tad high.
Deer Chad, I am going for the hole herd lmao! I have no clue what it shoots, and wont find out anytime soon being no place around here has one. I am headed to anchorage tomorrow to pick up my pard, but my time will be spent on the road, or at the pack store having them take a look at my pack frame!
btw, if yall are looking for a pack for a back pack hunt, or the perfect frame for packing out game.....Barneys in Anchorage has a new pack frame set up. Its super light, super sturdy, and from what I hear you can take an 150lb adult have him stand on the "deck" and pack him around, they say you would think you have half that weight on your back. I have the old frame, dont buy it. Its nothing more then the cabela's freighter frame, though barneys says they came out with the frame first. I know mine is more then a handful or years old, its just not worth the 250 buck price tag of the frame for the old one. Shoot me an email and I can get ya contact info....the pack is scweeet!

RE: new crusader
Just curious but do you use 2 nock points? I had 2 on my crusader and kept getting a little upward kick for some reason. Went back to one and everything is fine now. Not sure of the reason but thought I would throw that out.

RE: new crusader
nope, just 1
I went back to the range for more paper punching fun. I can shoot it just fine. In flight I cant see it being they are punching bullets 12 yards and farther out..but up close, no way. I think I am a tad light on spine.
I did try and put more pressure on my top finger. That did help but man the amount I had to put to get any difference was a ton. I need an explanation John.
I am headed out and going to take my old bow out, it still shoots fine, I am just concerned about it, and use the new bow as backup.

RE: new crusader
Dan,
Try turning the cock feather in. I had to do that with the Simmons Land Shark broadheads I am shooting.
I do my paper tuning at 15 yards. That is a range where I know I can shoot where I am looking and the arrow will definitely be flying in whatever final orientation it is going to achieve, i.e., nock hi/lo or left/right, or right on, hopefully!
