Turkey Hunting Whether it's spring or fall doesn't matter to this bunch. Great tips on calling, bustin flocks, using blinds and more.

Default newbie question

What is the big difference between #5 and #6 shot. I am going to try #5 shot this year and am gonna try some remington, and winchester shells. What is your preference on shell and shot size. The shotgun is a mossberg 500 in 3".

#5 is a larger pellet/BB than #6....I use Winchester 2 oz #5's but each gun patterns different for each shell.....experiment.

with a # 5 shot the pellets are a little bit bigger than a 6 shot. I would recommend using the 5 shot..because there is a decent amount of pellets and its also a good size...its not too small..the only problem with shotslower than 4 is that there is less pellets but the pellets are bigger..but you will have a good spread..i use 4 shot and 5 shot buffered loads. Usually winchester. I have had problems with remington shells duck hunting..but they were the cheaper remington duck loads. Im not talking bad about remington..I myself use a camo model 870 supermag and its a great gun.

Thanks guys I shot #4 last season and they worked good.I was using federal mag shok turkey loads. I noticed that the shell unfired was about a little less than an 1/8th of an inch longer than the winchesters I was comparing. The winchester cycled flawlessly they shot alright and popped out of the gun when I tried to load a second shell. The federals cycled fine but after I shot they wouldn't come out of the gun because the spent shell was too long. Luckly I killed my turkey with one shot but a second shot would have been impossible.
