Default !@#$% Dry Fired! !@#$

I just dry fired a bow! $%^&*! Never done that before. What a noise! CRACK!!!Impressive if angering!

Luckily, it is one I never use any more - an old, heavy 41" black McPherson with little cams I bought for $100 four years ago. I was just pulling on it to see if it was worth keeping or selling, and it slipped. Can't believe I did that.

Think it did damage? Any test I can do or certain places on the bow I should inspect?

I'm not gonna sell it now - I have too much of a conscience.

Most newer bows can withstand a couple dry fires. My old 250 dollar champion bow went through two dry fires and it was fine. Now that I have a 700 mathews I don't ever pull it back w/o an arrow.

To answer your question about checking the bow out. Look for cracks in the limbs near the limb forks, axels, limb pockets etc. It may have bent your axels as well. If it was your back up bow I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

Thanks Nuge. Man, I sure hope I never do that to my good bow! What energy! That's gotta do some damage somewhere. Like I said, if I wasn't so mad I would be thoroughly impressed.

I draw and sight 10 to 20 reps per night to keep the back strong. I will be sure never to slip.
