What type of sight do you use??

3 pins are pretty much the most common, from what I've heard.
With my setup at 20,30,40. I just "know" that 25 yards is the perfect gap inbetween the two top pins, and 35 is the gap between the two bottom.

cool
once you get your stand set up how do you measure yardage to where you expect deer to be? Do you also fire a couple of arrows into a block to verify you are right on? This seems like this would be the perfect time of year to mess around in the timber, not October

Copper John Dead Nuts for 3-D. This hunting season Im going to try out a pendulum. I bought the Cobra, and so far so good. I am a terrible judge at distance. So the pendulum should help me out.

Whoever told you that you only needed one pin out to 50yds. is either crazy or one heck of a guesstimator/compensator. On my new Outback I am shooting a Toxonics Sniper pendulum. The pendulum is good out to 20 yds. then you have two fixed pins below the pendulum for 30 & 40 yds. My setup is averaging 268 fps and that is fast enough that the pins are touching each other. I am very impressed so far with the Outback but will not make outrageous velocity claims.

When I use a sight, it's an Archers Choice Grizzly that I've made into a 5-pin sight by adding two extra pins. Pretty much bomb proof and it has pins that are nice and bright in low light without being TOO bright.
But I usually shoot without sights, especially on a hunting bow.

I'm using an HHA OL-5000 sight on my Outback,w/ Tru-Peep which fits the hole size of the sight almost perfect. Have it set at 20,30 and 40 yards. Love the sight but like others said you would only be major guesstimating if you only used one pin or didn't move your slide adjustment. My bow is set at 63lbs w/28"shafts and 100 grain heads and there is significant drop out to 40 yards much less 50.
