Compounds, that is. Bad shoulder + physical weight + draw cycle = PAIN
I've got enough pain already. Don't need my toys causing me more. I can shoot my recurves and longbows all day, but 30 shots with my ProTec - even as easy and smooth drawing as Accuwheels are - has me reaching for the naprosyn and ice bag.
So, there's fixin' to be a clearance sale!

I've been thinking of doing the same thing for the same reason. Been poppin the Tylenol 8hr's on shooting days. It's my right shoulder thats giving me problems (right handed) and it doesn't bother me when I shoot my Bear Grizzly. But I need a longer recurve , I get too much finger pinch with that 58" Bear.

You might have to spread the word around to the Mavericks or Spurs that your having a garage sale. You might find someone close to your draw length out there!

Mine's the left shoulder, my bow arm shoulder. But the right one has it's problems too. Tore the rotator cuff in it, throwing a baseball, but managed to get by with therapy and avoided surgery.
You don't think there's any bow shooters on the Rockets?

Between old football injuries, and being a cop for most of my adult life, I've had four surgerys on my right shoulder, one on my back, and the current Saw Bones wants to operate on my left should to relieve some spurs. Tore the rotor cuff in the right one two years ago.
My options were either find a comfortable bow or go to the crossbow. I started with the Mathews Legacy and now currently shoot the Mathews Outback. Big wheels, high let-off, smooth bows and moderate weight, (55#) allow me to still participate in Archery and Bowhunting. I do however, take a daily dose of pain medication that helps with the back injury and I assume helps with the shoulders too. Probably have to take it the rest of my life. This works for me. Maybe you or someone else reading your post can use this information.

Before you quit compounds, go try a BowTech Pro 40 Freedom cam or a Liberty. I can't imagine a bow that draws smoother than these two and the accuracy of my neighbor's Pro 40 is really something else!!!

The Pro40 with the Freedom Cam has draw lengths up to 32"...... come on Arthur, you know you just can't get away from compounds, you need at least one more. I mean, what kind of hunter would you be if you didn't have a compound?

I think your on to something Arthur. I have only been bowhunting for about 7 years (all compounds) but also have a history of shoulder problems. all this to say that I recently built a deflex longbow and absolutley love it. I said I wasn't going to quit shooting modern, but as I become more proficient I'm finding simple is more fun, rewarding and alot less painful.

Arthur P,
Try pulling a Mathews Icon before you quit. The Oneida bows are quite friendly too. My Dale Dye recurve was made to draw 31 1/2 inches and it is alot easier on the joints than anything else I own. Just because the old English archers had deformed bone structure from shooting heavy poundage bows doesn't mean that we have to follow their example ourselves. A good bowhunter tries to see how close he can get to his prey before he kills it. Good luckhunting!
