I wholly agree with c903. Nothing beats a pro shop or even just an experienced friend when you first start out. Also, for your own safety, I would recommend getting it thoroughly checked out, as was also mentioned. If you don't find a pro shop near you that you like, talk to the people shooting if there is an indoor range at those shops. I have met a lot of nice people at the shooting range.

Yeah, I am pretty "ground level" as you say with archery, though I have shot many bows in the past, just haven't owned a compound bow. I have an old Green Bear recurve bow that I was shooting whenever I got the chance. But I have already planned to go into a local archery shop here nearby and have someone check out the bow and give me some pointers on starting out with one. I did, however, get the bow adjusted to where I can pull it back easily, though I think it would be even easier with a release, which is what I'm going to buy here soon.

Thanks for the help guys.

See ya,

Skull:

Adjusting the bow to where you can now pull it back easy does not mean the bow is adjusted correctly. I would not buy any gear until you have the bow inspected and know that the bow is adjusted correctly, and is correct for you. A lot depends what your draw-length and draw-weight is.

Make a trip to your pro shop, Not only will he inspect your bow, but he will be able to help you pick out arrow rests, sights, etc. He will also make sure your bow fits you properly. and last he will let you know what weight arrow you should shoot.

I'm planning on taking it in within the next couple days. For now I've just been setting up targets and shooting a few arrows into them.

See ya,
