Replacing fiber optics on sight...
#1
I'm fixin' to replace the fiber optic strands on my Spot-Hogg.
This past season I had 2 crack and one break off[:@], I
love the sight, but not what I'm looking for as far as durability.
Anyway, for those of you who have replaced strands before,
how much of the fiber optic do you leave on the backside
of the pin?
Any hunters out there use both .019 and .029 on
there sight? I'm considering picking up a couple of the
.019 pins for longer distances.
Thanks for the help

Overall, I think it's pretty hard for fibers to deal with the abuse we bowhunters put them through. Between trudging through thick brush and constant shooting they really go through a lot of stress. IMO, fiber strength is one of the weak points on all the best sights but I would sacrifice that any day for the illumination factor over plain metal pins. Spot Hog is one of the most durable sights on the market and there isn't oo much else they can do to prevent these types of things from happening. Lastly, I have found .19 pins to be great for shooting but not that good for hunting as far as durability is concerned or illumination in the low light conditions of daybreak and dusk. TGK

hey two beard a buudty of mine that works at a local archery shop replaced the fiber optics on all my pins--as far as brightness the type of fiber optic makes a difference. when we changed fibers i had a little more fiber protruding from the back of my pins but it wasnt nothing spectacular.go to zenitharchery.com they have a good quality fiber optic.cut old out then put one end of fiber into sight housing at base leave a small amount protruding through the eye in sight pin.take a lighter to cut end and place it near heat, only to ball the end.if the flame touches it it will lose it brightness.they have different sizes.the green will show up the best of all.especially toward dark
