Default Merlin Max 3000

Has anyone finger shot this bow? After shooting fingers for 30 years I am not ready to give it up yet but it seems bows are getting shorter and the brace heights are getting lower. most every thing I have is at least 48" long with an 8 inch or greater brace height and I was wondering what the finger shooters are doing these days. Also in the old days every company had their own way of measureing draw lenght, has this ever been standardized? I searched for info on this board about draw lenght and found a "wing span" method that says my draw lenght should be 26.5",but all my old bows (jennings pre-bear and oniedas) have been 28"draws that fit me. Can anyone explain what is going on with draw lenght because all the 28"drawlenght bows I have tried recently seem long.

HiLeft-

We have customers who finger shoot the Max 3000 39.75" ATA, and have no problems with string angle or finger pinch. Yes, very hard to find bows much over 40" nowadays. Even the Supernova is only 40.25" now with Omega cam.

To correctly measure your drawlength for a Merlin, (who measures by correct AMO standards for drawlength) do this--

Take the bow you have now, and run a straight line up from the deepest part of the grip to the shelf near the arrowrest, and mark that spot with pencil or tape or whatever. Next, take a long arrow, and using the same equipment (or fingers, LOL) that you would use with you new Merlin, draw and anchor comfortably. Have friend/wife/whomever mark the arrow in the same spot as the marked spot on the shelf. Let down, and measure the arrow from the inside bottom of the nock where it touches the string, to the mark on the shaft. ADD one inch and three quarters (1 3/4" VERY IMPORTANT YOU ADD THIS!) This is your true AMO drawlength. Check it a few times to ensure you are correct. If you do this procedure correctly, when you order a Merlin it will come through exactly the same at correct AMO standard measurement.

You are correct, no-one measured the same, and not much has changed even today-- there are no standards except for AMO, that's why Merlin uses them. It's pretty simple to figure once you've done it a few times. Hope this helps. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12

Thanks for the info pinwheel that cleared it up fine for me. Now after checking several of my bows, I came up with 28.25" is it OK to shoot a 28" draw or do I have to go to 28.5? I like to pull tight against something when I anchor.

thanks alot
hileft

Either module will hit 28.25", but if you really pull hard into the stops you should easily get 28.25 out of a 28. Best thing is, modules are always available for cheap money, and seeing as the bow comes with one of your choice installed anyway, it might be just as simple to get both when you get the bow if you are unsure. I think the 28 would work for you tho. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12
