Suggestions on new bow?
 

I personally favor my Legacy, but I am shopping on some one else’s limited budget for a 14 year old growing young man. He did well this year taking a doe and a cow with his old Bow. I have seen some nice Bowtech’s fully equipped in the $300-350 range. Any suggestion on something else or which model of Bowtech that will accommodate an adjustable draw and shoot smooth for the price?

Pat or Jeff might be able to field this one when they see it but I believe the Tomkat and Blackhawk are their two least expensive adult bows at this point. However, I am aware that they also have some youth/ladies models that might also fit the bill. Check out the newest models at www.bowtecharchery.com . I am sure you should be able to find at least one that suits your needs.

At 14 he took a doe and a cow! I' d recommend he keep his old bow. :)

He has a good hunting partner. The young man is a freind of the family. His Bow is large, bulky, and tops out at 55#' s. It is to be a gift from his mother, that knows almost nothing about hunting, but supports her son.

I have been impressed with Bowtech and seems still a little cheaper than Mathews.

Well if you are looking for a BowTech, the Tomkat (assuming it' s in his draw length range) and the BlackHawk or BlackHawk II. are both mid-priced bows with good performance and solidly built. No bells & whistles, but they both are good solid hunting bows. The Tomkat comes as a kit with sight, rest, stabilizer & rest; MSRP is $479 I believe, and Is ee them going for les than that usually. The BH & BHII are just " bare" bows (though they come with the " hush kit" as does the TK).

I personally don' t care for a bow as short as the BlackHawk, but they shoot very nice with that big brace height, and are suprisingly quick. A lot of bang for the buck, especially for a younger archer as the bow can " grow" with him.

I would suggest something with some draw length adjustment.He will most likely grow quite a bit more and I am sure they would hate for him to outgrow the bow before next season.


I like Hoyts and they have a few magnesium riser bows in that price range that have plenty of draw length adjustment and they are great bows to boot.It really doesn' t matter what brand but I do strongly advise getting some adjustment in whatever you choose.

Go to a proshop and find a bow that HE likes and fits HIM. Something that will allow him to adjust the bow as he grows. Look at the bow, not the name. Hopefully he' ll be a bowhunter that likes to hunt rather than running around showing the name of the latest, greatest, fastest bow that is made- THIS WEEK. I hope he turns into a kid that wants to show me pics of his latest harvest instead of his bow. Good luck and congratulate him on his cow and doe.

Thanks for all the advice. His mom was looking for the suprise Christmas gift but I too prefer taking the young man along for the many reasons mentioned here.
