RE: Suggestions on new bow?
Have his mother give him a card that says...
"Merry Christmas son, consider this card a "gift certificate" to the archery pro shop for the purchase of a bow and arrow of your choice." Then he can go get one that he likes and that will fit him like a glove. |
RE: Suggestions on new bow?
Contrary to the popular belief around this board, there are many excellent bows on the market and one should not limit themselves to thinking that the Bowtechs are the be-all end-all of each individuals' search for the perfect bow. JMHO. Everyone's different, and have different tastes---some bows fit some people better than others, so you cannot limit yourself to just one brand without trying others when searching for a new bow because each brand has a different geometry.
It was best stated above---buy him a gift certificate at a local Pro shop that carries many different brands, and let HIM decide which bow fits him the best. Here's the best advice I can give you, and you should ask the Pro shop to do this because it works excellently---What I do with customers is ask them what type of configuration they are looking for, (preferred ATA, Brace height, drawlength, and poundage) then blindfold them in front of a shooting bale and put at least 3 different brands into their hands of comparable configurations without them knowing what brands they are shooting. Then I let them draw and shoot each one into the bale as many times as they wish. You would be amazed at how many come in looking for one specific brand of bow, but end up leaving with another!;) There are many quality bows on the market, all with different feels and handling charteristics, and it is up to each person to do a test as mentioned above to fully understand this charateristic of individual "feel"---far too many simply go by the hype of advertising or the hype of what your buddy shoots, and it unfortunately can certainly hamper a persons' own comfort level and shooting/ handling preference which in turn can affect accuracy and overall confidence. Buy him a certificate, and turn him loose to find his own preferences. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |
RE: Suggestions on new bow?
Kevin, I don't think anyone is saying what you're implying. bow/walker mentioned the BowTechs and was given honest answers. Sure there are many brands of bows, you have your preferences. And you're not alone in this mindset. I agree, people should shoot as many as possible, making an informed decision based on their experience. But these forums are for people to ask for information and opinions. Some of each are worth listening to and some not. The best thing here is that bow/walker has this young man out hunting and enjoying archery, and is obviously doing well at helping him learn. I hope whatever bow he gets fits him well and, is an enjoyable bow for him to shoot. Good luck and great job bow/walker.;)

RE: Suggestions on new bow?
Pat-
Yes, Sag likes to stir things up.;) BTW, hope to see you also at the ATA again this year. You know which booth I'll be in, swing by-- I'll try to do the same.;) Phil-- Don't misunderstand me, I'm not telling anyone they should not look at Bowtechs when conducting their search, but I also wanted to remind them that altho this board is primarily comprised of Bowtech staff shooters and/or loyalists, that there ARE other top-shelf bows on the market and it is in everyones' best interest to try them all before they decide on anything. That's it. Sag-- I got some interesting news for you coming very soon. I'll be in touch. ;) Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |

Rangeball--
Remember, good things come to those who wait----patiently.[&:];) Soon, very soon my friend. It will be worth the wait too, this I guarantee-- think of the impeccable Merlin craftsmanship and quality, and then think combining that with "technology".;) " For there will soon be a new household name echoing through the hills and into every archers' ears, Ahahahahahahahaha!" [&:] Too much drama?:D OK. Let's just say it's gonna be sweet, and worth checking out. Almost time now, and you will be one of the first to know. Good shooting, Pinwheel 12 |
