Default Proline bow

So I stopped by salvation army today and got myself Proline Tempest II model 10-280 for $20. I always wanted to try bowhunting and now I've got a bow. There are all these numbers on the bow. What do they mean?
Let off 35% 50%
Wt. Adj. Range 40-55
Approx. with Setting 50
Draw Lgth. Range 30-32
Let off 50
Amo String Lenght 43 (I get that! hehe)
Plus, is it an ok bow to start with? I want to practice shooting first and maybe at some point go for a turkey.
The amo string looks like it has two strings broken and like 10 of them still intact. Is this a problem can they all brake all at once? Or should I change the string?
What else do I need besides arrows (what length arrows) to start practice shooting? Thanks!
Does anyone know how old this bow might be?

The answers to your question are yes and no. First off no one can tell you what your draws length is. So the bow may not fit you in that regard.
To answer your questions the let off has 2 settings, 35% and 50%. That is the amount of weight you would hold at full draw (i.e.: if your bow is set at 50 pound draw and the let off is set at 50%, you will be holding 25 lb at full draw (50% of 50#)).
The draw weight is adjustable by turning the limb bolt equal amounts.
The string. Get it replaced immediately.
The draw length is adjustable from 30 - 32" probably in 1/2" increments but you will have to find that info online on how to adjust it.
As for arrows you will like need a 400 spine if you're draw length is set at 30" and draw weight at 50#.
Will it kill a deer or turkey.. It sure will. But you need to practice, practice, practice.
You never did say what kind of rest it had or other accessories.
Now to put this to you gently...you should have saved your money and went to a pro shop and likely got a new model bow, used, and you could have had it for a while. I'm afraid you might just get frustrated with the equipment you just bought.

Have to agree with Bronko, especially about the draw length. If it can't be adjusted to fit you then it's not a good deal at any price. Do you know what draw length you SHOULD shoot? If not then tell us your height to give a rough idea.

Bronko, love your signature. Especially the part about PC.

That Pro line was from the mid 1970's. How tall you are has nothing to do with your draw, it is how long your arms are. Most people can get away with a 32 inch draw.
I would go to a archery shop with the bow and ask them to measure your draw, check out the rest (what the arrow sets on while at draw and rides on when you release.) Get that string changed first thing.

It is a very capable bow that was in the mid price range when new. I have a Pro line Cyclone, still use it today for rough fishing. Harvested many deer and a couple turkeys with it during its time.

A good target is a couple hay/straw bales and throw some used carpet behind to stop any pass thrus. You can make some closed cell foam insulation targets buy making a holder and gluing a few layers together too. Start close like 10 to 15 yards and work back.
Have fun. Practice holding the draw too, many times a deer will at the last minute stop behind a tree of bush and you will need to hold the draw or risk being seen letting off.

Yes while most people can "get by" using a 32" draw, the average male of 5'9", unless he has orangutan arms will be so hyper-extended as to be both uncomfortable and inaccurate.
