Can anyone tell me what the advantages are to helical fletching vs straight and so on. I' ve been fletching straight at a slight (3 or 4 deg.?) angle but have a buddy with a dual cam patriot that fletches straight (I know his setup is alot faster than my stalker).
I' m shooting 28" gold tip xt7595 at 65#with 100 grn tips through a wisker bisquit. I will however switch to a fallaway if I ever make up my mind on which to get.
Thanks for any advice

The more helix, or twist that is on the fletching the more stability imparted to the arrow in flight. The helical configuration causes the shaft to rotate during flight which gives the shaft stability during flight. This becomes especially important when broadheads are used, the broadhead wants to steer the arrow from the front and the fletching needs to counteract this from the back. As far as rotation and stability the helical will impart the most, offset less and a straight fletch the least. The type of rest will also dictate what you can use.

I think what is more important to the stable flight of a fixed broadhead is the drag that a helical provides. I think that this may be more important then the actual rotation of the arrow. I wonder what others think of this. We calcualted on another forum that a helical will only provide about 2 complete rotations of an arrow at thirty yards shot out of an average bow.
